The Iowa Soccer Development Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to leading the Pro Iowa campaign — an initiative designed to build on central Iowa’s position as a thriving, vibrant community through the development of a multiuse stadium and plaza. Together, the Pro Iowa Stadium and Global Plaza will energize Iowa’s economy, unite people through shared experiences and provide opportunities for underserved, at-risk youth to experience the global game of soccer. The ISDF will own the Pro Iowa Stadium and Global Plaza when the project is completed.

ISDF operates independently as a nonprofit organization focused on developing a professional soccer stadium and Global Plaza in Des Moines. Pro Iowa represents the broader initiative and vision to bring men’s and women’s professional soccer to Iowa and create a new community destination for Des Moines and central Iowa.

The proposed stadium and Global Plaza are envisioned as significant community investments that can create a vibrant new outdoor destination for Des Moines while benefiting communities throughout central Iowa and the state.

Men’s and women’s professional soccer in Des Moines is expected to strengthen the economy through tourism and workforce attraction while helping spur additional economic development and activity. The stadium and Global Plaza would also create new opportunities for sporting events, community gatherings, entertainment and other activities that bring residents and visitors together.

A project of this scale requires collaboration among public, private and community partners. ISDF continues to work with city leadership and other public and community partners, including Polk County, the State of Iowa, the Iowa Economic Development Authority and the Greater Des Moines Partnership, as it evaluates the project and determines a responsible path forward.

These partnerships are important to realizing the vision for a professional soccer stadium and Global Plaza that can serve Des Moines, central Iowa and the state for years to come.

ISDF remains committed to building a professional soccer stadium and Global Plaza in Des Moines to support men’s and women’s professional soccer in Iowa.

In June, ISDF received updated stadium renderings and a projected project budget. The ISDF Board has not yet approved a final stadium design or final project budget.

As with any major development, design, scope, cost and timing may evolve as circumstances change. ISDF will continue to evaluate the project carefully and, where appropriate, use value engineering and other responsible design adjustments to align the project with available resources while preserving the core vision for the stadium.

The ISDF is thrilled to have Krause+ as the developer of the Pro Iowa Stadium and Global Plaza. With leadership and experience in soccer, sports, entertainment and development, Krause+ will work closely with the ISDF to ensure the design is brought to life and that it meets all qualifications outlined by the USL.

Updated stadium and plaza renderings will be shared with the public once finalized. The ISDF will also notify the public when construction begins and looks forward to providing progress updates throughout the process.

The City of Des Moines’ decision to end its development negotiations with Krause+ regarding redevelopment of a portion of the former DICO site changes the broader development landscape, but it does not mean the stadium project is being abandoned.

ISDF is an independent nonprofit organization, separate from Krause+, with its own agreements with the city related to the proposed stadium and Global Plaza. City leadership has publicly indicated that its existing commitments to ISDF remain in place.

ISDF is assessing the implications of the city’s decision and working with public and community partners to determine a responsible path forward for the project.

Yes. City leadership has publicly indicated that its existing commitments to ISDF remain in place. 

Those commitments include ISDF’s lease agreement for approximately half of the 43-acre former DICO property, city funding to offset environmental remediation costs associated with the site, a $1.5 million commitment toward construction of the Global Plaza and a $7 million allocation to ISDF approved in December 2025.

ISDF remains committed to moving the stadium and Global Plaza forward and is actively evaluating the project following the City of Des Moines’ decision regarding redevelopment of a portion of the former DICO site.

The ISDF Board is in active discussions with city leadership and other public and community partners, including Polk County, the State of Iowa, the Iowa Economic Development Authority and the Greater Des Moines Partnership, to understand the options available and determine a responsible path forward.

As that work continues, ISDF will carefully evaluate the project’s design, scope, budget and available resources while working to preserve the core vision for the stadium and Global Plaza.
